![]() As you move the donation slider to the right, you’ll see additional packs that are available. While you can purchase add-on packs at any time, you’ll save money by going the donation route at the beginning.Ībove you'll see just a small sample of what you can get with a donation. If you do make a donation, however, you’ll get certain add-on packs. Keep it coming. When downloading the program, there’s a slider bar to make a donation but you can move it to zero and get the software for free. The tutorials were made for the Pro version, but the general concepts still apply to Express: We have a couple of tutorials which detail the timeline setup. ![]() For animation generally you want to go into a composite shot timeline. There is keyframing, but not in the editor. Shortcuts, especially in the context of the editor, are something we're actually looking at in detail at the moment, so it's useful to know that it was one of the first things you noted. The arrows keys move layers around which makes more sense when you're working on a composite shot. You can change some of the shortcuts in the Options window. So if we included them in the free version of Express it would actually cost us - and given how much people are downloading and using Express, you can imagine the bill would get pretty big. Regarding the premium formats pack, the reason we have to charge for that one is that we have to pay licensing fees for those formats. It may have just been a temporary glitch as our servers are being hammered at the moment. ![]() I've informed our web team so they'll be looking into that. Not sure what happened with the 404 on the premium formats pack. Thanks for the feedback, lots of really good observations here. There is no keyframing functionality, though, which is a little annoying and basically means there is no facility for time warping (though there is a speed control effect, but when I tried to use it it crashed the program). I also like that it uses Drop-Frame timecode in 29.97 mode, and it seems to cope with variable frame rate media alright. I'm not pleased with the lack of options with exporting formats (YouTube, H.264, Image Sequence, and AVI) but I am pleased that it at least gives me some choices within each one (uncompressed AVI is better than nothing!), which is more than most free programs give me, and is appreciated at this level. Nor does it have any facility for rendering things. ![]() The arrow keys are always moving video around within the frame, never allowing for frame-by-frame searching. The whole gamut of keyboard controls are clunky, actually. It also doesn't support JKL keyboard shortcuts, which has really thrown me for a loop since most other editing tools support that. Granted, $10 isn't bad, but it feels like a real cop-out to not put that kind of warning up front, especially when AVCHD is such a common format. The weird thing is that it likes the rest of the footage my camera (Lumix G6) kicked out at 1080p59.94, and the 2160p30 footage my cell phone produced, but not AVCHD. After crawling around their site for a while (which I shouldn't have to do in order to buy something like this) I found out it's $9.99 for the "Premium Formats" package. Worse yet is when I hit the button to go to the HitFilm Store to check out the license their website gave me a 404. The big issue I've hit so far is that it doesn't support AC-3 audio without purchasing a license. It reminds me a bit of Premiere in some ways, but simplified. ![]()
